Psychotherapy
and Counselling

What is Psychotherapy and Counselling?

We often liken the therapeutic process to navigating a dark and unfamiliar forest. As a client, you may find yourself in this forest, unsure of which path to take. The forest represents your challenges, overwhelming emotions, or past trauma, and while there are many potential paths ahead, it can feel difficult to see clearly or know which direction is best for you. In this analogy, a therapist acts as a guide, offering essential tools like a flashlight or a map to help you safely navigate your journey and find your way out of the forest.

A therapist provides a safe, non-judgmental space where you can freely express your thoughts, emotions, and beliefs. Therapy is an opportunity to gain deeper self-understanding, develop effective coping strategies, and process past experiences you wish to move beyond.

This analogy underscores that therapy is a collaborative process. The therapist and client work together to create a personalized plan that suits your unique needs and goals. Ultimately, the therapist’s role is to empower you, providing guidance and support to help you regain control and confidence in your life.

Approaches Offered

Our approach is holistic, strength-based, and collaborative. We work with the client to heal the whole person, taking into account mental, physical, and social factors rather than just the symptoms of the illness. Holistic healing can reduce the chances of relapse. It also helps clients apply the coping and stress reduction skills they learn to all parts of their lives.

We offer various modalities, drawing mainly from training in Trauma-Informed and Mindfulness-Based approaches. In addition, our staff has training in Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical-Behavioural Therapy, Narrative Exposure Therapy, Attachment Theory, Internal Family Systems, and Somatic-Based Therapy.
